Suluada in September: Warm Sea, Softer Light, Fewer People

In September the Suluada boat tour from Side sails every day, and the Suluada boat tour from Antalya sails Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday — September still sits inside the April-to-October window that includes the Saturday departure. The price is unchanged: €40 per adult, €30 per child aged 4–10, infants 0–3 free.

Ask anyone who works this coast which month they would pick for a boat day, and a lot of them say September. Not because it is dramatically different from August — for the first half of the month it barely is — but because of what happens quietly in the second half.

The September Schedule

Every boat sails from Adrasan harbour. Your hotel decides the road leg; it never decides the departure point.

• From Side — every day. Pickup window 05:30–06:00 across the Side–Manavgat band, optional breakfast stop at Adrasan paid locally, boat away at 09:40, alongside again at 16:00. About 10 hours door to door, minimum age 6.
• From Antalya — Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Pickup window 08:30–09:00 from central Antalya, Kemer and Beldibi. Around 12 hours, with snorkelling masks and pool floats included.

Only the Side boat runs every day of the year; the Antalya boat runs on selected days, and September is one of the months when Saturday is among them. From November that Saturday disappears until spring. Early September Is Not Late September

This is the single most useful thing to know about the month, and most guides skip it.

The first half of September behaves like a continuation of high summer. The sea is warm, the deck is hot, the light is hard and bright, and the coast is still busy — European school terms restart at different times, so the emptying-out is gradual rather than sudden. Pack as you would for August, read sun safety on deck, and expect to be grateful for the 05:30–06:00 pickup rather than resentful of it.

The second half is where September earns its reputation. Mornings begin to lose their edge. The pre-dawn transfer from the Side–Manavgat band starts to feel genuinely cool rather than merely early, and a light layer stops being optional for the first hour of the day. The sea, though, does not cool at the same rate as the air — it holds the summer far longer, which is why late September so often delivers warm swimming under a softer sky. Fewer people, the same water.

Neither half is better. They are different days, and knowing which one you have booked is the difference between packing well and packing wrong.

What the Island Feels Like in September

Calmer, in every sense. Conditions at the anchorage are usually settled, so the tender boats can shuttle guests into the bay where conditions allow — the boat anchors off Suluada rather than tying up at a pier. The twin beaches still throw that pale-sand turquoise back at the sky, and the swim stops along the route, including sheltered Domuz Bay, tend to be the unhurried version of themselves.

The light is the other thing. It comes in at a lower angle than in midsummer and it is kinder to a camera — less glare bouncing off the water at midday, more depth in the turquoise, better colour on the pine-clad cliffs. The honest note: September is still a long day. Ten hours door to door from Side, twelve from Antalya. The temperature drops a little as the month goes on; the length does not change at all.

What to Pack in September

Everything from the summer list, plus one addition. Remember that there is no shop on the island and nothing to buy at the anchorage — the boat is back alongside at 16:00, and that is when your options return.

• Sun protection. The sun is lower, not weaker. High-factor cream, hat, sunglasses.
• A light layer or a fleece for late September — for the early transfer and for the deck on the way home, when you are damp and moving.
• Cash for the bar, which is not included, and for the optional breakfast stop at Adrasan.
• A towel that dries fast and a dry bag for your phone.

Prices, Booking and Who Travels This Month

The price does not move with the calendar: €40 per adult, €30 per child aged 4–10, infants 0–3 free, flat from every pickup point on the coast. No September discount, no September surcharge — see the prices page and what a Suluada boat tour costs.

The mix of guests shifts as the month goes on. Families dominate the first half; couples and independent travellers take over the second, which is why Suluada for couples and the best tour for couples get read most in late September. Booking is free online and you pay on the tour day, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. If rough sea forces the harbour authority to stop sailings, you are rebooked or refunded.

Free transfer language applies across the Side–Manavgat band and for central Antalya, Lara, Kemer and Beldibi. For the Belek band, the Alanya band, Kundu, Konyaaltı, Göynük, Kiriş, Çamyuva and Tekirova we confirm pickup individually — tell us your hotel.
