Suluada vs Green Canyon: Sea Island or Emerald Lake?

Short verdict: Green Canyon is the calm, close, freshwater option; Suluada is the long open-sea day with the turquoise bay. Same holiday, two very different kinds of water.

Green Canyon is the reservoir held back by the Oymapınar Dam above Manavgat, a short drive inland from Side. Deep green freshwater, steep pine-covered walls, almost no swell. It is scenery you glide through.

Suluada is a small rocky island off the Adrasan coast, west of Antalya — the one people call the Turkish Maldives. Light sand under turquoise, twin beaches, a cave with a name. It is scenery you swim in.

If the island is what you came for, the Suluada boat tour from Side sails every day: flat €40 per adult, €30 per child aged 4–10, infants free, paid on the tour day.

What Green Canyon Is

Green Canyon is a man-made lake in a steep valley behind the Oymapınar Dam, inland from Manavgat and easily reached from the Side resorts. The water is fresh, still and famously deep green; the walls are limestone and pine. Boats cruise between the cliffs rather than crossing open water, so there is no swell and no horizon — the whole appeal is the enclosure.

It suits people who get uneasy on the open sea, families who want a gentler outing, and anyone whose holiday has no room for a ten-hour day. How long a Green Canyon trip lasts, what it costs and whether swimming stops are included depends entirely on the operator you book with — ask them directly. We only publish numbers for our own product.

If that is the day you want, our own canyon brand runs it — you can book a Green Canyon day there and ask them for the details we do not print here.

The Island Day, and Why It Runs Ten Hours

Every Suluada cruise sails from Adrasan harbour; your pickup point changes only the road leg. From the Side–Manavgat band a vehicle collects you in the 05:30–06:00 window, the boat leaves Adrasan at 09:40 and docks back at 16:00. Door to door, about ten hours. Minimum age 6 on this departure.

The day is built around swimming: breaks at the island and the bays around it — the twin beaches, the Love Cave, the sheltered water of Domuz Bay. Where conditions allow, tender boats shuttle guests from the anchorage to the bay. Lunch is cooked on board — grilled fish or chicken with pasta or rice, daily Turkish mezes, seasonal salad, then fruit and Turkish tea. Drinks from the bar are extra, and there is no shop on the island.

Staying further west? The Antalya departure collects from central Antalya, Kemer and Beldibi between 08:30 and 09:00 for a day of roughly twelve hours, sailing Tuesday and Thursday all year plus Saturday from April to October. The full timetable is on our daily tour page.

Fresh Water or Salt Water

Salt or fresh. Suluada is the Mediterranean: buoyant, bright, open. Green Canyon is a freshwater reservoir: cooler in feel, still, closed in by cliffs.

Distance and day length. Green Canyon is inland from Manavgat — close to the Side hotels, so the road leg is short. Suluada demands a genuine early start and a full day, because Adrasan lies west beyond Antalya. That early alarm is the price of the colour.

What you photograph. The canyon gives you depth and reflection: green water, grey rock, dark pines. The island gives you contrast: white sand, turquoise shallows, a bay you can walk out into.

What you pay us. One flat price for the whole coast — €40 per adult, €30 per child aged 4–10, infants free, booked free online and paid on the tour day, free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. Everything included and excluded is listed on the price page.

Canyon or Island: Who Should Book Which

Choose Green Canyon if a ten-hour sea day is more than your holiday has room for, if open water makes you nervous, if you have small children and a low tolerance for early starts, or if you simply want an easy day of scenery.

Choose Suluada if swimming is the point; if you want snorkelling and a real island bay; if you are prepared to leave before dawn once, for the water everyone photographs. Confident swimmers, teenagers and couples tend to pick it without hesitating.

Doing both? They pair well — a long sea day and a gentle inland one. For the other river-side option near Manavgat, read Suluada vs the Manavgat river cruise. FAQ

Is Suluada better than Green Canyon?+

Not better — different. Suluada is an open-sea island day with swimming breaks in turquoise water and a ten-hour door-to-door schedule; Green Canyon is a calm freshwater lake cruise much closer to the Side hotels. Choose by how much of the day you want to give up.

Can you swim at Green Canyon and at Suluada?+

Swimming is the core of the Suluada day — several breaks at the island and the surrounding bays, with the boat sailing from Adrasan at 09:40 and docking at 16:00. At Green Canyon, whether and where you swim depends on the operator and the area, so ask them before booking.

Which one is closer to Side?+

Green Canyon is much closer — it lies inland from Manavgat, a short drive from the Side resorts. Suluada is reached from Adrasan harbour, west beyond Antalya, which is why pickup from the Side region falls in the 05:30–06:00 window.

How much is the Suluada tour?+

A flat €40 per adult from every pickup point on the coast, €30 per child aged 4–10, infants 0–3 free. You book free online and pay on the tour day, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. We do not quote Green Canyon prices — they are not our product.
