Suluada for Families: Read the Minimum Age First

The single most important fact for families comes first: the minimum age on our Side departure is 6. If your child is younger than that, message us before you book and we will tell you honestly what is possible for your date rather than take a reservation we cannot honour.

The second most important fact is the length of the day. From Side, hotel pickup falls in the 05:30–06:00 window and you are back at your hotel after the boat docks at 16:00 — around 10 hours door to door. That is a big ask of a small person. It is also, for the right child, the day they remember from the whole holiday.

Why Children Take to Suluada

Because it is a boat, and boats are already interesting. Then the boat stops at an island with a pale sand bay, the water goes turquoise, and swimming becomes the entire programme. There is no queue, no scheduled activity to sit through and nothing to buy — there is no shop on the island, so pester power has nowhere to go.

The day includes swimming breaks at Suluada and in the bays around it, and the boat anchors near the island rather than tying up at a pier; where conditions allow, tender boats shuttle guests into the bay. That little transfer is usually the moment children talk about afterwards. Life jackets are available on request and non-swimmers are welcome, which matters if one child swims confidently and the other does not.

There is scenery to point at as well, which helps on the legs between swims. The route passes the sheltered cove of Domuz Bay and the Love Cave, one of the island's named features, seen from the water, and it is the pale sand of the island's twin beaches that turns the water the colour you see in photographs. A child who would not last ten minutes in a museum will happily watch a cliff go past for an hour.

The Honest Trade-Offs

We would rather you cancel now than at 05:30 with a crying child. Three things to weigh:

• The early start. Pickup from the Side region is between 05:30 and 06:00. Children who wake badly will wake badly.
• The length. Ten hours door to door from Side, around twelve from Antalya. There is a lot of sitting on the boat between the swims.
• The sun. You are on open water for most of the day. Hats, high-factor sun cream and a long-sleeved layer are not optional. Our what to bring list covers the rest.

What works in your favour: there is an optional breakfast stop at Adrasan on the Side departure, paid at the local restaurant, which breaks the road leg neatly and gets food into everyone before the boat sails at 09:40.

Which Departure for a Family

Every boat sails from Adrasan harbour; only the road leg changes.

The Suluada boat tour from Side runs every day, which means you can move it if a child is off-colour. It is the shorter of the two at about 10 hours, and it is the departure with the stated minimum age of 6.

The Suluada boat tour from Antalya starts later — pickup is between 08:30 and 09:00 from central Antalya, Kemer and Beldibi — which is kinder on the morning, but the day runs to around 12 hours and the boat does not sail every weekday. It goes Tuesday and Thursday all year, plus Saturday from April to October. Snorkel masks and pool floats are included on that boat, which older children tend to appreciate.

Free hotel transfer language applies across the Side and Manavgat band, and for central Antalya, Lara, Kemer and Beldibi. For the Belek band, the Alanya band, Kundu, Konyaaltı, Göynük, Kiriş, Çamyuva and Tekirova we confirm your pickup individually. From Adrasan, Olympos, Çıralı, Finike, Demre and Kaş there is no transfer product — families make their own way to Adrasan harbour and meet the boat there.

Food, Money and the Practical Bits

Lunch is cooked on board and included: grilled fish or chicken with pasta or rice, the day's Turkish mezes, a seasonal salad, then fruit and tea. Fussy eaters usually find the chicken and the pasta or rice. Drinks at the bar are not included, so bring cash — with children on board, that is the line item people forget.

Pricing is flat from every pickup point on the coast: €40 per adult, €30 per child aged 4–10, and infants 0–3 travel free. Two adults and two children in that band come to €140 for the day. There is no regional surcharge, no prepayment, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure — useful insurance when you are booking around a child. If the harbour authority stops sailings because of rough sea, you are rebooked or refunded. Nobody is asked to sail in conditions they should not be in.

Deciding

Ask yourself one question: can your child handle a 05:30 start and a full day outdoors? If yes, this is one of the simplest good days on this coast — swimming, lunch, more swimming, home. If no, wait a year. The island is not going anywhere.
