Boat Safety Equipment on a Suluada Tour: What We Can Confirm

The short version: life jackets are available on request, non-swimmers are welcome, swimming is optional from start to finish, and in rough sea the harbour authority can stop departures altogether. Everything below is either something we operate ourselves or something we will openly decline to claim.

That second part matters. Plenty of tour pages publish a confident inventory of safety kit written by a marketing team that has never been on the boat. We are not going to add to the pile. Ask us about anything specific and you will get an answer about the boat you are actually sailing on — not a paragraph designed to sound reassuring.

Life Jackets: On Request, No Explanation Needed

Life jackets are available on request. You do not have to justify wanting one, you do not have to be a weak swimmer, and asking on the day is completely normal — plenty of guests do.

If you know in advance that you want one, or that someone in your group does, mention it when you book. It costs nothing and it means the conversation happens on shore rather than at the swim stop. The most useful thing to understand is that nothing on this trip is compulsory. The boat stops, the water is there, and you get in or you do not. Guests spend the island stop swimming, snorkelling, or sitting on deck watching other people do both. All three are a normal day.

The Most Important Safety System Is the Decision Not to Sail

On this coast, the single biggest safety factor is not equipment. It is whether the boat goes out at all.

In rough sea conditions the harbour authority can stop departures. That decision is not ours and it is not negotiable — which is exactly what you want from it. If your day is cancelled that way, you are rebooked or refunded. Nobody is left holding a booking for a boat that did not sail, and nobody is pressured onto the water to protect a schedule.

Anchoring, Tender Boats and the Island Bay

At Suluada the boat anchors near the bay rather than tying up. Where conditions allow, tender boats shuttle guests across the last stretch of water and back. Where they do not allow it, that shuttle does not run — the same principle as the harbour decision, applied at a smaller scale by the crew on the day.

Two practical consequences. First, boarding and moving between boats involves steps, so if that is a concern for you, read medical and mobility questions and tell us before you book. Second, there is no shop on the island — anything you need on the sand, including water, travels with you from the boat.

On the Side departure, guidance is included and the tour languages are English, German, Russian and Turkish, so if you are told something that matters, you will be told it in a language you follow. If language matters to you on the Antalya departure, ask us before you book. Worth knowing if you are travelling with children: the minimum age on the Side departure is 6, and Suluada with kids covers the rest.

Most of what makes a boat day go well is in your own hands anyway. Sun is the big one: hours over open water send light back up at you, and people who never burn by the hotel pool burn on deck. A hat, a cover-up and the habit of reapplying beat any amount of good intention — sun safety on deck takes two minutes to read.

Water is the second. Lunch is included, but drinks at the bar are not, and there is no shop on the island, so cash for the day and something to drink in your bag both belong on the list in what to bring on a Suluada boat tour. The third is footing: decks get wet once people start climbing back aboard from a swim, so soft shoes or bare feet beat slippery sandals, and there is no prize for moving quickly. With children, that one counts double.

On the Antalya Boat: Masks, Floats and Cover

The Suluada boat tour from Antalya includes snorkelling masks and pool floats on board, along with marine insurance and harbour fees. Pickup runs between 08:30 and 09:00 from central Antalya, Kemer and Beldibi, and the boat sails Tuesday and Thursday all year with Saturday added from April to October.

The Suluada boat tour from Side is collected in the 05:30–06:00 window, sails from Adrasan at 09:40, docks at 16:00 and runs every day of the year. Both boats leave the same harbour for the same island; what changes is the road leg and the day's length — about 10 hours from Side, around 12 hours from Antalya. What We Will Not Claim

We will not publish an equipment inventory we cannot stand behind for every sailing, and we will not quote numbers — of anything — to sound thorough.
