Luggage and Valuables on a Suluada Boat Tour

One soft bag per person, and nothing in it you would hate to lose. That is the whole packing rule for a Suluada day, and everything below is the reasoning behind it.

This matters more here than on a normal excursion for two reasons. The day is long — about 10 hours door to door from Side, around 12 hours from Antalya — and there is no shop on the island. Nothing forgotten can be replaced, and nothing surplus can be put down somewhere safe.

One Soft Bag Is the Right Answer

A beach bag or a small rucksack, made of something that folds. Boats are not built for wheeled suitcases or rigid cases: space on deck is shared, and a hard case is something everyone has to step around for ten hours.

Soft also means packable. Your bag will spend the day moving — hotel to vehicle, vehicle to harbour, harbour to deck, deck to a tender boat and back — and a bag that squashes into a corner is a bag that stays where you left it. One bag per person also means one thing to count when you leave the deck, which is exactly how items stop being forgotten.

What Should Stay in the Hotel Safe

Be strict about this. A day boat is an open, shared space with swimming stops, and the hotel safe is a locked box you are coming back to that evening.

• Jewellery, watches and anything with sentimental value. Salt water and sand are hard on both.
• Spare cards and the bulk of your cash. Bring what the day needs, not what the holiday needs.
• Your passport, unless you have a specific reason to carry it. A photo of it on your phone covers most situations.
• Laptops, tablets and anything else that will not survive a wet day out.

Airport day is different, of course. If you are checking out and travelling on, tell us in advance — message us with your plans and we will tell you honestly what is workable, rather than letting you arrive at the harbour with a suitcase.

What Has to Travel With You

The other half of the rule. Some things cannot be left behind, because nothing at the island will replace them.

• Sun cream, a hat and sunglasses. No shop, no shade to buy, no second chances.
• A towel and a dry T-shirt, plus a bag for wet swimwear on the way home.
• Medication, in your day bag rather than your suitcase, and known to whoever is with you.
• Cash for the day. Drinks at the bar are paid separately, and the optional breakfast stop at Adrasan around 08:30 on the Side departure is paid at the local restaurant.
• A power bank, because your phone is doing all the photography. More in charging your phone on a boat day.

Everything Gets Wet — Plan for It

The boat anchors near the island rather than tying up at a pier, and where conditions allow, tender boats shuttle guests across into the bay. It is a short, lovely crossing, and it is also the moment bags get splashed and phones get dropped.

So pack in layers of dryness. A waterproof pouch for phone, cash and keys. A sealable plastic bag for anything paper — your printed ticket, tissues, a book. Then the towel and clothes in the main compartment, where a little spray does no harm.

Sun cream is the other liquid to think about. Put it in its own bag, because a bottle that opens in your rucksack ruins everything it touches, and there is nowhere to wash anything out until you are back at the hotel.

Who Is Watching Your Bag? Honestly, You

There is no locker, no safe and nothing that locks on board. Bags sit on deck alongside other guests' bags, and while people on a boat trip are overwhelmingly decent, we are not going to promise supervision we cannot deliver. Items left unattended are your responsibility.

In practice this is simple. Keep the small valuable things in a pouch you take with you — most people swim with their pouch clipped somewhere on the deck they can see, or leave it with whoever is not swimming. Photograph your bag before you get in the water if you are the anxious type; it takes a second and it settles the mind.

The same applies to the vehicle. Whatever you leave in the transfer, you will not see again until the road leg home, so anything you might want during the day belongs on the boat with you.

The Practical Frame of the Day

The Suluada boat tour from Side runs every day, with hotel pickup in the 05:30–06:00 window across the Side and Manavgat band, sailing at 09:40 and docking at 16:00. Minimum age on this departure is 6. The Suluada boat tour from Antalya sails Tuesday and Thursday all year, plus Saturday from April to October, with pickup between 08:30 and 09:00 from central Antalya, Kemer and Beldibi.

In Belek, the Alanya band, Kundu, Konyaaltı, Göynük, Kiriş, Çamyuva or Tekirova we confirm your pickup individually rather than promising a blanket transfer. On the west coast — Adrasan, Olympos, Çıralı, Finike, Demre and Kaş — there is no transfer product and guests meet the boat at Adrasan harbour.
